I've been lusting after the iPhone ever since I saw Steve Jobs demonstrate it pre-launch years ago. But it was always inaccessible. I have M1 and Starhub mobile accounts. I certainly didn't want a third from Singtel. The unlocked ones always seemed a bit dodgy too.
As time went by, my friends who had them were very clearly split into two camps: those who can't live without their iPhones, and those who threw them into a drawer in disgust.
Just as my old Sony Ericsson didn't look like it would survive another day, I found out that M1 was giving out iPhones for free on their 2 year plans! No further persuation was needed! I was at Paragon like a shot!
It took me a good week at least to get used to the iPhone. Everything was going well. I was just starting to fall in love with it, and then it hung! For no reason at all, it decided to misbehave on me. I couldn't switch it off and have no clue how to get the battery out! It happened just as I was leaving SNEC, so had to wait till I got home before I could solve it. Even with helpful advice from the internet, it took 10 minutes of fiddling before it would talk to me properly again.
The solution was to hold the on-off button and main button for at least 5 seconds until the screen went black. I found it took much longer than 5 seconds though. Even then, when I tried to switch it ob again, it wasn't terribly responsive. The apple icon seemed to stay on forever.
Oh well, at least it seems to be ok now, and I know what to do if it happens again. I'm just glad I wasn't stuck anywhere with no internet access. Or else it could have been a much bigger disaster.
So yeah, I do like the phone a lot. It's fun and pretty responsive. But when it plays up, it can be a real nightmare!
